Competition Considers Updated
Rosters
Player Coach, chairman of the MWS Competition Committee announced Monday
that the committee is looking at the possibilities of using updated
rosters for Nationals V. The MWS community has been vocal about their
concerns with ballers using the big 3 at regional and online tournaments.
In the opinion of several ballers, the Big 3, being the Rams, Steelers,
and Eagles, have a significant advantage over most other teams on the
game. Thus, ballers are registering with the the teams that they feel
may give them the best chance to win. "We are not sure of all the
ins and outs of using the updated rosters," state P. C. "We
want to see how the concept holds up under tourney play. What the pros
and cons maybe, and we need to look if there may be any logistical concerns."
Player Coach went on to add that using updated rosters means the tournament
officials must have only one master memory card that the game can load
from to protect the integrity of the game. That master card(s) would
load the roster on all of the games when the machine starts up.
At the most recent OCS Tournament 24 of the 32 teams in the field played
with either the Eagles, Steelers or Rams. "The Rams are ridiculous,"
states PFL Champion Ryan Collins. "They get way too much love on
the game." Player Coach agrees. "There are just some things
the Rams do on the game that is just crazy," states P.C. "The
have speed, combined with awareness, that is well above the other teams."
This seems to be the sentiment of the MWS community also. In fact,
so many ballers voiced their concerns for an alternative that Gametime
Philly sponsored a tournament featuring throwback teams in December.
Since the game was released in August, ballers have been voicing their
frustrations over the "love" EA gave Pittsburgh, St. Louis
and Philadelphia.
"I think you will still see a lot of ballers taking one of the
big three," says MWS commissioner The Swammi. "However, you
may see more ballers pick up other teams such as Oakland, Tampa Bay,
Denver and San Francisco, to name a few. With updated rosters, I think
it balances out the teams better. You will still see a presence on a
big three, but maybe not as big as if we went with default rosters."
The committee is scheduled to make a recommendation one way or the
other regarding the change by early next week.
