In order to participate in The 1999 Madden Games, all players must
be registered. We will reserve spots on a first come first serve
basis. The tournament will be set up as a Round Robin/Single
Elimination. Seeds will be assigned after the preliminary round based
on records in each group.
1. HARDWARE
Competition shall occur using Sony Playstation units with the
standard manufactures joysticks that are shipped with the unit.
Any joystick either than those shipped with the unit or an
exact duplicate, must be approved. Joysticks that create any type of
advantage, (such as but not limited to infrared remote controls)
shall be prohibited from use.
2. SOFTWARE
Official Tournament Sanctioned Software shall be EA Sports John
Madden 99 Football For Playstation Consoles.
3. GAME LENGTH
Round Robin & First Round tournament games shall be scheduled
at six (6) minute quarters. Semi-final games shall be scheduled at
eight (8) minute quarters. The Madden Games World Championship shall
be scheduled at ten (10) minute quarters. Included in each game shall
be a five minute halftime. Only if BOTH teams agree to forego
the use of a halftime period, shall the game continue without
interruption.
4. PLAYING CONDITIONS/GAME SETTINGS
All tournament games shall be set to and played on the Madden
Level. Games not played on the Madden Level shall be considered null
and void. Weather conditions will be set to the Fair Condition. The
camera angle will be set to the Madden Classic Cam view. All other
settings,i.e. penalties, fatigue etc., shall remain at or be set to
the default settings.
5. TEAM ROSTERS
Teams shall play with rosters included on the system
when the game was shipped. Manipulated or enhanced rosters are
prohibited for use in The Madden Games.
6. USER PROFILES/MEMORY CARDS
Teams may use user profile cards to expedite the
setting of audibles and substitutions.
7. General Game Play
There shall be no limits or stipulations set on play
calling, (i.e. when to fake punt, or go for it on fourth down)
blowout/mercy rules (games will be played in their entirety
regardless of score).
The use of special codes or "cheats" shall be prohibited for use
in the Madden Games. A special code or "cheat" shall be defined as
any enhancement to the game that is not considered a default that
creates an advantage or disadvantage for either player.
8. GENERAL DECORUM
a. Coaching, suggestions, or helpful hints whether
verbally or by gesture, are not allowed during a tournament game.
b. Guest are allowed to view the tournament events but they must
be accompanied by a tournament member. Guest must not interfere in
any way with the operations of a tournament event or they may be
asked to leave by a tournament official.
c. Walking in front of the game monitor (TV) while the game is in
progress is considered a MAJOR infraction of tournament decorum.
d. Audibles and game substitutions are permissible at the start of
the game and at halftime only. However, if a player wishes to make a
substitution, or change an audible during game play, a time out must
be used. That player will then have two minutes to adjust his roster
or game plan accordingly. Opposing players SHOULD allow for
privacy during the setting of audibles.
e. Smoking is prohibited inside the arena of all tournament
events.
f. As a courtesy coaches should arrive to their scheduled games at
least 15 minutes prior to kickoff.
9. GAME STOPPAGE
Any player stopping the game at any point during the
game whether advert or inadvertent must call a time out. In the event
that the player committing the infraction does not have any time outs
remaining, the following must occur:
1. If the player committing the infraction is on defense he must
take a mandatory encroachment penalty until the offense receives an
automatic first down.
2. If the player committing the infraction is on offense he must
take two mandatory delay of games. (a 10 yard loss) If the stoppage
causes the offense to relinquish the ball to the opponent (i.e.
fourth down situation or turnover), and the offending player is now
on offense, that player must take four stop clock plays to relinquish
the ball back to the opponent.
3. If this infraction is at the end of a game whereby the
consequences cannot be enforced, the game shall be referred to the
Special Council. The Council shall issue a resolution as to how the
game shall end, or if it is to be replayed.
5. GAME MALFUNCTIONS
In the unlikely event of a game system malfunction that is
determined to be unavoidable, a winner shall be declared by the
following guidelines:
a. there is a 28 point or more lead at any point in
the game beyond the start of the fourth quarter.
b. If there is at least a 21 point lead at in point inside the two
minute warning.
c. If neither of the above scenarios apply, the game shall be
considered null and void and must be replayed.
6. Overtime
In the event that a game is tied at the end of
regulation, the two teams will play a sudden death overtime until a
winner is declared. The sudden death overtime shall be one quarter.
The quarter length will be that of the respective round that the game
is being played in. Players may treat the overtime period as if it
were the beginning of a game for the setting of profiles,
substitutions, audibles, etc. The game will be reset, with the coin
toss ceremony determining who receives the ball.
7. Injuries
If a player is injured during game play, a coach
cannot substitute, or access the extent of the players injury without
stopping the game, thus causing the coach to use a timeout. If a
timeout is used, the coach will have two minutes to make the
appropriate substitutions.
8. Timeouts
A coach may use a time out as he wishes. Once a
timeout is called, a coach will have two minutes to execute any
roster/profile alterations. Once that two minutes has elapsed, the
game shall resume. Offending coaches will face a five yard penalty
for delay of game.
