BFL
Shows Depth Again At Nationals
Call
them what you want. Cocky, pushy, arrogant, extreme
purist...but you can't called them weak. You often
hear BFL'ers speaking of the depth and competitiveness
of the Atlanta based league. Is it more talk than
fact? You decide. The
BFL had the largest number of ballers represented
at Nationals for the second time in three years,
with 12 entering the field in 2001. Of those 12,
75% (8) stayed alive to play Sunday. A higher percentage
than any other league with 4 or more ballers represented.
Of those 12, 3 were undefeated, and two (DC &
X) advanced to the final 8. The New
Orleans Madden Ballers scored as the second
deepest league, despite only having two ballers
make the single elimination's. But Lou
Tillery and Will Turner advancing to the final
four placed the NOMB with the only two ballers from
the same league to make a final four since the BFL
accomplished the feat in 1999. The
HMFL placed 3rd, actually tying the PFL with
7 points. But the fact that the HMFL advanced 4
ballers to Sunday, two of them seeded #1 gives the
Houston based league the tiebreaker edge.
The PFL, founders
of Nationals, placed third also with 3 of its ballers
advancing past the first round, and Dell Barton,
advancing all the way to the final 8. Los Angeles'
UMF/Federation
advanced 5 ballers to Survivor Sunday, only
to have four of them lose in the first round. J
Mack was the lone UMF/Federation baller to make
it to round two before falling to Will Turner. Donnie
B & Wallstreet held down the fort for the DFL,
despite Donnie B's first round exodus. Wallstreet
advancing to the final four of the tourney scored
big points for the DFL. The only other league to
place more than one baller in Sunday's tourney was
the nation's capital's DCFL. Mad Guru and Coach
Kevin both advanced to Sunday play, however, both
were ousted in the first round.

The
BFL By The Numbers
BFL Facts
1999
All 7
BFL entries make single elimination tourney. The BFL
sends 6 to the final 8 and 3, (White, Scrubby P, and Ace
Hill) make the final four.White makes his first championship
appearance but loses the PFL's Creator 49-42.
2000
The
BFL sends six to D.C. for Nationals II. 5
stay alive to Sunday, while both White and DC advance
to the final 8 before having to face each other. White
advances to his second consecutive championship game,
but loses to the HMFL's Candyman 53-50.
2001
The
BFL sends twelve (12) to New Orleans, a Nationals record,
breaking the previous high of 10 by the DCFL. 8 of those
advance to Sunday. However, the run ends quickly as 6
of them fail to make the second round. Only X, and DC
advance to the final 8. DC is the only baller from the
2K final 8 to return to the 2k1 final 8. Winky White loses
in the first round for the first time, and once again,
the crown eludes one of the top leagues in the nation.
