MWS
Establishes Annual Regional Championship Series
Part
of a long standing vision has finally became reality April 9 when
MWS Commissioner The Swammi announced the creation of the annual
Regional Championship Series. The RCS will be a part of a 6 tournament
series designed to crown a champion in 5 regions on the nation.
This year the tournament will feature championships in four cities,
Atlanta, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Next year
plans to add the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex are in the making
for a Southwest title.
"The
RCS is a part of a vision I have had for years to create a quasi-circuit
for Madden ballers across the nation," states the MWS Commissioner.
"The emphasis is on regional competition rather than huge
national tournaments. Besides MegaBowl and Nationals, the other
tournaments should focus on marketing to its region. There will
also be a push to lower the prize purses and lower entry fees
as well. Many ballers are becoming turned off by high entry tournaments.
However, tournament directors have to protect their investments,
thus tournament entry fees have skyrocketed in just the past 2-3
years."
MWS
tournament season begins in January with LA Tournament of Champions.
February will feature the Southeast Championship. No tournaments
will be scheduled during the month of March. The East Coast Championship
is slated for April 2005, the Midwest Championship in May, with
the final leg of the RCS taking place in June, the West Coast
Championship. Dates for the DFW tournament will be finalize later
in the year. Each of these tournaments lead to the crown jewel,
Nationals. This year participants in the RCS will receive ranking
points for the MWS Top 100. Other incentives are being planned
for next years RCS.
This
year the RCS kicks off May 22 in Atlanta with the official MWS
Southeast Championship. The MWS
Midwest Championship, the second leg of the RCS, picks up
the following weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-30 in Milwaukee.
From there we shift gears to prepare for the East
Coast Championship held in conjunction with the BCA in Philadelphia,
June 13. The final leg of the RCS will be the West
Coast Championship. Dates for the WCC are still being finalized
at the time this article went to publication. However stay tuned
