Voted PFL Coach Of The Year
David Hines has gone from the PFL cellar to earning the respect
of his peers, as THE LEAGUE awarded him the prestigious Coach Of
The Year honor for his performance in the 2001 season. Hines, who
had finished 1-15 in both of his first two seasons, finished 8-7-1
in 2001, which included a trip to the playoffs. Hines edged out
Ryan Collins in the balloting by a slim margin. Hines entered the
PFL in the 1999 season. In his first two season, he went a dismal
2-30. But this year, he turned it around. While the Titans still
suffered several blowouts, as in previous seasons, this season Hines
won the close games, he had been losing in the past. Wins over the
Redskins, Raiders and 49ers gave Hines the momentum he needed to
bring his team to the next level.
The question for
Hines this season, is whether last season was a one year wonder.
The Titans will have to deal with a third place schedule, meaning
tougher opponents. Look for the Titans to have to take on the likes
of Minnesota, Detroit, Baltimore, Tampa Bay, and San Diego, not
to mention division rivals Jacksonville and Dallas twice. Hines
game will certainly be tested with a tougher schedule next season.
