Bad
coaching decisions by Wayne Allen helped elevate Denver's chances of
getting off the schnide Tuesday night, as the Bronco's topped the Niners
28-14. Denver exploded early with Ashley Lelie, the rookie from Hawaii,
taking theng kick off 91 yards for a TD to start the game.
The Niners
settled down and put together a scoring drive, tying the game at 7.
With less than a minute to go, the Niners took a punt from the Broncos,
and attempted to drive the length of the field and score before the
end of the half. That decision changed the course of the game, as Jeff
Garcia was picked off not once, but twice in the closing moments of
the first half, to give Denver a 14 point swing in :28 seconds, and
a comfortable 21-7 lead at the half.
It wasn't
until early in the fourth quarter that the 49ers put together a successful
drive. Garcia hit Terrell Owens to bring the game to 21-14 with plenty
of time left. However, Cain answered with a scoring drive himself, capped
off my a 33 yard touchdown pass from Greise to Sharpe where the score
remained 28-14.
