Vikings Escape By The Narrowest Of Margins
After jumping out
to a 21-7 lead of Kevin Fox and the Packers, Brooks was set to put the
game away midway though the second period. But Fox stepped up and made
perhaps what was the biggest play of the half when he intercepted Brooks
deep in Green Bay territory to prevent the Vikes from going up 28-7.
Fox went on to tie the game 21-21 in the third quarter, and followed
by taking the lead 28-21 midway through the fourth. It took the Pack
a quarter and a half for the defense to settle down. "We started
playing their tendencies," stated Fox. "That allowed us to
get back into the game defensively. From there we went to our custom
offense package and were able to put points up on the board." "We
stayed one dimensional too long," stated James Brooks after the
game. "We let the Packers defense dictate to us when we should
have stayed with our game plan." The play calling wasn't good either."
With the Packers
leading 28-21 early in the fourth, the Vikes came back to tie the game
at 28. Bur Fox, slowly and methodically use the clock late in the fourth
and assemble a text book drive that was capped by a Dorsey Levens screen
to go ahead 35-28 with a 1:14 to play. Brooks then answered with his
own impressive drive that features two big plays to Randy Moss, and
a crucial 4th and 3 conversion by Robert Smith. Brooks went on to score
to make the game 35-34. Face with another opportunity to tie the ball
game, Brooks, as he did in the first meeting opted to go for the two
point conversion. This time he converted to win the game and the division.
Brooks has now earned the first round bye and will await the winner
of the wild card round.

Niners Need Strong Second Half To Top KC
After
jumping out to 21-3 lead on Hayward's Chiefs, the Niner defensive lapse
combined with a crucial Chuck Levy fumble, Kansas City climbed right
back into the game to bring it to 21-19. However, Allen's late third
quarter adjustments propelled the Niners to a 36-19 win, and one step
closer to a AFC west title. The Chiefs were set to take the lead in
the second half, but two crucial Elvis Grbac interceptions halted potential
scoring drives. Allen's Niners seized the opportunity and converted
immediately to go up 36-19, a lead they held for the duration of the
game. Travis Jervey's two touchdowns was the difference for Allen's
Niners. With the Rams win over the Raiders the two teams must wait the
outcome of the Seattle Seahawks games. That may determine the seeding
and who wins the AFC Western Division championship.

Dallas Eases By Tennessee
After starting 1-4,
Charles has rallied the Cowboys to win 8 of his last 9 including a 34-7
pasting of the Tennessee Titans. The stingy Cowboy defense held the
Titans to 147 yards total offense while the offense dominated time of
possession keeping the ball for 17:06. With a win over Buffalo and Indianapolis,
Dallas will clinch the #3 seed in the NFC. Tennessee will finish 1-15
for the second year in a row.

Pats Make Playoffs, Top Hapless Giants
The Patriots clinched
their fourth consecutive playoff berth with a 35-14 win over the NY
Giants. The Pats, finished 7-9 after taking a 48-28 lambasting at the
hands of the Jaguars. Smolka clinches a #6 seed and will face the #3
seed in the first round of the NFC Wildcard round, Thursday at 6:00
PM.

Falcons Improve With Win Over Struggling Colts
Brian Cook has shown
some late season improvements winning 4 of his last 7 games, but unfortunately
for Cook, its too little too late. Atlanta topped the Colts 23-20 in a
nail biter to improve to 4-11. However, Cook has his hands full against
the playoff hungry Jets in the late game. When asked if he was returning
to Atlanta he was quoted as saying, "I'm not certain right now. I
just want to take the season off, and see what other moves are made on
the off season. So far I have had contact from Washington, and the NY
Giants, but I'm not certain right now what I want to do." This was
Cooks first season in Atlanta after going 2-14 in Seattle last year. If
Cook moves it will be his third team in three years.

Jets Spoil Bills Hope For
A Division Title
The plot now thickens
in Buffalo as the Bills drop a crucial game to the Jets. With a chance
to clinch the division title with 2 wins in its last three games, the
Jets ended the season with a season sweep of the Bills, defeating Brown's
squad 30-25. The play of the game was a crucial Flutie interception
at the Jets 3 yard line with less than a minut to play. A Bills score
would have given Brown the lead with less than a minute to play. Poon
went on to run out the clock and secure the win. The Jets went on to
defeat the Falcons in the second game of their double-header to finish
the season at 9-7. More than likely, the Jets will be looking at either
a #5 or possibly a #4 seed.

Oakland
End Season On Sour Note, Drops Two
The Raiders nightmare
season came to a dramatic end on Sunday with two heart wrenching losses.
First the Raiders dropped an unimpressive showing to the Rams 48-20.
In their second game the Raiders were a little more impressive but eventually
they fell to the Vikings 29-16. In the Vikings game, Brooks lead 29-16
with the Raiders driving. However, after a crucial Rich Gannon interception,
the Vikes will able to kill crucial time on the clock before eventually
turning the ball over themselves. At that point it was too late for
the Raiders to make a run. The Raiders dropped to 2-14, their worst
PFL finish in the four years Barrow has been in THE LEAGUE. Minnesota
cruises to a 15-1 record, best ever in the PFL, topping the previous
14-2 best posted by Charles and the Cowboys in the 1997 season. The
Vikes will get the first round bye and face the lower seed of the wildcard
round winners.
