PFL Draft
Lottery Set For Nov. 7
The PFL will conduct
its annual draft lottery for current league owners Sunday, November 7
at 4 PM ET.
The draft selection
process is a weighted lottery system that allows current league
owners (not perspective applicants) to relinquish the
rights to their current team for a fair chance at getting a team with
better personnel or one that is more suited to a coach's particular philosophy
or scheme.
The lottery system
which was enacted in 2001 replaced the previous system which allowed owners
to be awarded the team of their choice based on their regular season record.
In the previous system the team with the least amount of wins was guaranteed
any team available in the selection pool. In today's system, the weighted
lottery does favors the team with the least amount of wins, but it does
not guarantee any owner a specific selection. With the weighted system
a team a good record could very well get the first pick, although the
chances of that occurring are very slim.
In order to be eligible
for the draft lottery, owners were required to submit their application
to the office of the commissioner by October 10. Once an owner declares
himself eligible for the lottery, he loses all rights to his previous
team. However, he may reselect the same team if he so desires in the when
his selection arises in the draft lottery.
The draft lottery
will take place at Porter's Place, the official home arena of the PFL.
