Gunz
& Halfa Dolla Out
February
1, 2003 - Ft. Lauderdale, FL
The
second leg of the MWS Sanctioned Online Championship got
underway today with 32 ballers set to duke it out for a
chance at a free air fare/hotel for Nationals V. However,
the tourney didn't get started without some bumps and bruises
early. BBO favorites Young Gunz and Halfa Dolla were caught
in traffic and were unable to log into the EA server before
the 10 minute tardy grace period had expired. Tournament
director The Swammi, disqualified the two ballers and awarded
wins to their two opponents. "Out of respect to the
other ballers that were there waiting to play, we had to
move on," The Swammi remarked afterwards regarding
the controversial move. "I was looking forward to having
the BBO in our events and looking forward to especially
Young Gunz competing in his first MWS event. Unfortunately,
we had to move on. I clearly understood their position,
as they were unhappy, but it was not the fault of the ballers
already in the tournament room that they were not there,
so we had to follow the rules on this one."
"I
think it is unfair," stated BBO member Halfa Dolla.
"We had to come from another borough just to get here,
and we got caught in traffic, and for us to loose out on
our chance to play is not fair."
"It's
an unfortunate situation," The Swammi continued. I
was disappointed that we had to move on, but that is business.
Sometimes we get caught in situations that we can't avoid,
and it ends up costing us. Sure it's not fair sometime,
but that is business. And throwing these tourneys is business.
We have to run it like that."
Once
that was resolved, the tournament ran smooth with only a
few upsets. Tournament #1 runner up Vince Miller was upset
in the first round by Hitman. Miller, of the Altanta based
BFL, was expected to be a contender for the tournament 2
crown.
