Special

Steve Buerline
earned game MVP honors with his 22-33-470 yard 2 td performance. |
Most ballers
would have been shaken when on the first play of the game, the defense
gives up an 80 yard touchdown. But then again, Ryan Collins is not most
ballers. On his first play from scrimmage, Brooks scored to go up early
7-0. But Collins came right back and answered Brooks to bring it to 7-6
after a failed conversion attempt. The two exchanged scores and went to
the end of the first quarter, tied at 14. Brooks seemed to step up his
defensive intensity after taking a 21-14 lead and carrying it most of
the second quarter. But Collins struck again late to make it 21-20, after
another botched two point attempt. However, with less than a minute, Brooks
showed his quick strike capabilities, and scored a touchdown to pull further
ahead, 28-20. Collins masterfully moved the ball deep into Viking territory,
using his time-outs and getting out of bounds to conserve clock. With
seconds remaining Collins kicked what proved to be a significant FG.
Turning
Point Of The Game
Collins predicted to Teddy B! during half-time that he would take the
second half kickoff "to the houze" and that is exactly what
he did. Collins sent Tim Biakabutuku in to take Mitch Bergers kick off,
and after several sensational moves, Biakabutuku found a seam in the coverage
and returned the kick 106 yards for a TD. Just like that, Collins was
up 29-28. No sooner than the Vikes could recover from the shock of giving
up a special teams TD, on the ensuing kickoff, David Palmer fumbled the
return deep in Viking territory. Collins was back in business, and the
Panthers pulled ahead for good.
If Its
In The Game........
Brooks played
a near flawless game and still came up short. Collins has excelled on
special teams all season, and the Vikings have been vulnerable on the
special teams. The fumble just added insult to injury. "I got a little
EA," Collins quipped after the game, alluding to the breaks he got
throughout the game.
Next For
Collins
The question
everyone wants to know now is, will Collins test his game at the highest
level...NATIONALS? Is he good enough to bring another national championship
to The PFL? After all THE LEAGUE that started nationals has had lackluster
showings from it's top brass the past couple of years. Despite Teddy B!
making the quarterfinals the past two years, and The Creator winning the
title in 1999, other marquee PFL ballers such as James Brooks, Kwan Drake,
Kevin Fox, and The Swammi, have been disappointing at nationals to say
the least. For now, Collins has remained non committal to nationals. However,
after being called out by the likes of Pasadena Soldier, that may be enough
to fuel the fire of the boastful Collins who has never been known to back
down to any challenge from any baller.
