Jags Face Pesky Niners In Round 1
A Tale Of Two Seasons: Fred Taylor rushed for over 900 yards in 2001. This season he was held to less than 600.

After getting off to a shaky start, the resilient Joe Hilton earned his 5th consecutive playoff berth in his seven years in the PFL. The Jags face the pesky Wayne Allen and the 49ers Sunday at 4:00 PM. Hilton is on a two game losing streak to Allen going back to last season. In addition, Hilton is looking to exercise the playoff demons that have prevented him from advancing past the division round. Hilton won his first playoff game last season, a blowout of underdog coach of the year David Hines. But in the second round the Jags loss to Dallas, preventing him from playing for the conference championship.

In 2000, the Jags won their division, only to lose to Tom Poon in the division round after securing a first round bye. 1999 saw the Jags lambasted by Teddy B's Steelers. And in 1998, Hilton's first playoff season, his old nemesis, Dallas knocked him out of the playoffs in the first round.

Hilton won't have the helpless Titans to push around this year. He will face a 49er team that has had his number the last two meetings. The Niners however, are struggling themselves. Wayne Allen, with a chance to go 10-6 on the season, lost his final two games of the season. A ugly blowout loss to Dell Barton, and a one point thriller to A. B. and the Raiders.

The Jags were looking to be a serious contender for the Superbowl coming into 2002 after finishing 13-3 the past two seasons. However, realignment change the divisions placing Hilton in arguably the toughest division in the league, The Big 5. Having to face defending champ Ryan Collins twice, along with Terrell Conyers, and Leonard Pressley makes the Big 5 perhaps the deepest division in THE LEAGUE.

But Hilton must make it out of round one before he can even consider make a run at the title. Should he win Sunday, he will more than likely face Ryan Collins, unless Leonard Pressley upsets the Lions. If Pressley wins, Hilton will face Teddy B! a team loss to less than a week ago, 54-35.
