Mark Asanovich enters his sixth season as the team's strength and conditioning coach. Asanovich oversees all aspects of the club's strength and conditioning program, including the highly successful four-month off-season voluntary workout program. The voluntary off-season conditioning program continues to be one of the most highly attended offseason programs in the National Football League, boasting a participation level from eligible roster players of nearly 100 percent.Under Asanovich's guidance, the Buccaneers have upgraded virtually every facet of their weight training facilities. Asanovich provides each Buccaneer player with a clearly defined road map on how he will reach his full potential in areas of conditioning, nutrition, and strength training.
Asanovich spent the 1995 NFL season as assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Prior to joining the Vikings, Asanovich worked from 1987-95 as the strength and conditioning coach at Anoka (MN) High School. During his tenure there, the school captured state football championships in 1990 and 1994. Anoka also won state titles in soccer (1989), wrestling (1991), and basketball (1992) during his nine years at the school. Asanovich came to Anoka after spending 1986 in a similar capacity at The Citadel.
In 1984, Asanovich was hired as a graduate assistant coach at Ohio State as the Buckeyes won the Big Ten title and played in the Rose Bowl that season. That same year, he also worked as the strength and conditioning coach at Grove City (Ohio) High School. Asanovich was promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach at Ohio State the following year as the team went 9-3 and defeated Brigham Young in the Citrus Bowl.
While in Minnesota, Asanovich was a member of the Governor's Council for Health and Physical Fitness and also was on the Executive Board of the Minnesota Association of Physical Education, Health, Exercise, Recreation, and Dance. He was also one of the first 15 coaches certified by the National Strength Conditioning Association.
Asanovich earned his bachelor's degree in special education from St. Cloud State and his master's in strength training and athletic conditioning from Ohio State. A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Asanovich played guard and linebacker at the city's East High School. He and his wife, Allisen, reside in Odessa with their daughter, Haley KayLynn.
